For EYX010 London-based Italian producer Ikävä Pii returns on the label (following their first appearance with ‘EPOS Digitale’ from September 2021) with a new mind-melter EP titled ‘Process Fatigue’, their first release of 2022.

Written “literally” while keeping “Discord and Ableton open at all times” and funnelling “ideas from one channel to the other”, ‘Process Fatigue’ contains four quirky club ready cuts reflecting the intent of the artist in developing new creative processes.

A downshifting sound signals the beginning of Protocol Art, the opening track introducing the listener to the new broad palette of sound from the Italian producer. This dance tool plays around the alternation of rhythm and melody, while enveloped synthesisers and warped samples convolute into kaleidoscopic musical textures until the last bell hits and dissolves into silence.
Fast paced hit-hats, a syncopated rhythmic session and analog harmonies and effects follow next in Group Chats with High Signal-to-Noise Ratio Become Coops, delivering an unconventional DJ tool with an incredible attention to sound designs.
Reaching towards the core of Ikävä Pii’s latest work there is title track Process Fatigue, which brings the listener into dark dubstep and obscure dance influenced territories driven by leading sub basses, an incessant kick and a glitchy percussions.
The closing cut is Relevant Channel which kicks off with atmospherical pads, a combination of wild gamelan percussions, tweaked synthesisers and time stretching effects succeeded imminently diverting the track into a flamboyant rhythmic dance.

“How do we decide how to decide? Process Fatigue is an involuntary reflection of the shared Sisyphean nature of grassroots organising and artistic creation. It was composed while researching a method and developing a set of tools for both SODAA (the London collective working on a model for a community-operated club) and a new personal creative cycle; Discord and Ableton open at all times, ideas crossing from one channel to another - while also adjusting to chronic tiredness. New protocols spawn new art and ways of sharing it - but avoid fetishising the process, or you’ll get stuck. Just make the tune! Do the party! Mess up! Have fun!”
