‘Red Ant’ is a work conceived to become the soundtrack for a visionary videogame. Its tunes bring together elements borrowed from Riddim and Dancehall which have been rearranged into a weirder and more intriguing manner characterised by syncopated rhythms, stretched vocals and deep bass-lines: the distinctive Ninja-Exotic-Machine-touch.
The game starts with title-track Red Ant where the listener (or the player) is thrown into Red Ant Land with its whole immersive new landscape of sounds. At a marching pace, gibberish vocals and swirling synthesisers accompany the listeners into this first step of the journey.
Apple Brucho follows next. Low kick-drum hits signal the entrance into a new world where the Italian duo brings arrangements and textures to the next level (Level 2 to be precise). Here the BPM increases and the listeners is surrounded by a jungle of percussive dance-floor disorientating elements.
The final chapter, SOS Workshy, is an experimental dancehall tool pushing forward Ninjas Exotic Machine’s sonic schemes where glitchy synthesisers, hypnotic warped-vocal melodies and an incessant kick-drum will command listeners into an hypnotic dance.
Ninja Exotic Machine said:
“The concept of Red Ant comes from playing to a weird videogame. The EP is conceived to become the soundtrack of this game where Red Ant aims to survive in the anthill following different rules than the norm. The result is a collage of glitchy texture, inhuman vocals and odd-riddim which aims to provide an alternative point of view to the main churchgoer of the game.”
‘Red Ant’ is available across all platforms starting from Friday 21st July 2023.
