Following acclaimed releases on SZNS7N and All Centre and the appearance on Early Reflex VA Flex003 in 2022, Diessa debuts on the imprint with Rough On It her first original EP since 2021.

Rough On It brings together the desire of the Glasgow-based producer of reflecting in these productions her exploratory approach to djing. The result is 4-tracker which balances the dance-floor functionality off-kilter rhythmic against more melodic and experimental elements such as vocal chops and heavily resampled synths.

The opener BAT4 is a roller kicking in a syncopated hooking rhythmic session which evolves around a dialogue between hypnotic arpeggiated synthesisers and a perpetual bass line. The title-track ‘Rough On It’ follows next with its trance-inspired vibe and power-chords synthesisers develops in a blasting peak-time rave track. Then the dark-infused club banger Boiling Over which kicks off with an incessant triplets-centered rhythmic session features on the talented Grove with their hypnotic and dazzling vocals. Closing the EP an instrumental version of the track Boiling Over providing a more dance-floor oriented cut of the tune.

Diessa said:
“The EP started from a desire to create tracks that reflected more of what I’ve been playing out in sets, balancing off-kilter drums against vocal chops and heavily resampled synths. I wanted tracks that had club functionality without sounding like tools, and filled specific niches that I could reach for during a set. BAT4’s 108/144BPM metric modulation thing came from my experimentation with high energy/lower tempo tunes, because I’m always searching for tracks that allow me to pivot between BPMs quickly without relying on dramatic tempo changes or double time. Early Reflex seemed like a logical choice of label after rinsing a few too many of their releases over the years :-)”
