For EYX013 Early Reflex welcomes to its crew Aosta Valley-based producer Capiuz followings the acclaimed appearances on B E N N’s imprint OverMyBody and the self-released works of Moving Grounds and Pleiades. EYX013 ‘The New Show’ is a collection of 4 hard-drum club tools which would entertain listeners and dancers with their original psychedelic twist.
The opener and title track The New Show kicks in with a progression of eerie effects devising the listeners until sampled broken vocals announce ‘This is the new show…’ cutting off every doubt and anticipating the entrance of an incessant rhythmic session, the real protagonist of the track.
Throw Off follows next, building a suspensive intermission within the release. Low frequency bass-drums and sequenced reverberated snares merge with high-pitched tambourines generating unique variations of the beat, the tune then get split in half to give space to a jazzy drum break solo which leads to the outro.
The Italian producer pushes the BPM up in Catch You Back, putting together a hypnotic rave tool for the late night. Beginning with a choir shouting in a mysterious language, the kick-drum starts hard supported by fast paced hit-hats bringing the listeners immediately into a far imaginary exotic world where people dance to the tune’s psychedelic gamelan-like melody.
Last One Before I Go comes (ironically) as a closure statement of the EP. In this last tool Capiuz increases further the BPM and brings the sound into leftfield-club and break-beats adjacent territories, yet remaining true his hard-drums club nature. A rhythmic synthesiser warns dancers that this last beat it’s going to be a dangerous one.
Capiuz said:
“A relentless crave for something new lays as an emotional foundation for this work and has directed the attitude while making it towards a personal journey through repetition and legitimization. The core sound comes from a melange of mangled samples, drum breaks and deep kick lines, where rhythmic patterns are hammered down in an obsessive manner before being hastily truncated and re-worked into new entities. In a frantic research with no fixed objective, every track takes the form of a fast pace pursuit that keeps blindly deviating from its course and shattering its own boundaries.”
‘The New Show’ is available across all platforms starting from Friday 5th May 2023.
